AMS VSP itermediate splint ???

•

The time cost of VSP is significantly less than that of AMS. Schwartz reported that CASS saved about 60 minutes of medical time for each case, even though cases in CASS groups were more complex than those in traditional groups.

Hanafy et al also claimed that the planning time was greatly reduced with the computer-aided method compared with the articulator method.

Li et al reported that they had spent 145 minutes on planning and template design.

According to our experience, all aspects of VSP planning take about three hours, while AMS requires double the time of VSP. (Supplemental Table 2) VSP has better visualisation than AMS, and VSP can provide additional information and details about the case, as well as the potential problems that are supposed to occur during the operation. VSP can reduce the operating time and help younger surgeons to be better and faster. Additionally, this visualisation facilitates communication with patients about their treatment plans. Data management is improved, as all the information is stored in the computer, which can be easily managed and transferred online.

Compared to that of AMS, the major disadvantage of computer-aided techniques is the higher cost. High spending is required to buy machines and software, and patients have to pay more money, which is their most considered factor.

The potential superior accuracy of VSP over AMS may be realised with the help of new positioning devices instead of intermediate splints.
